Clarins is one of my favorite beauty brands. The products are packed with natural ingredients that create effective results and beautiful skin. The newest edition to the Clarins collection is the Multi-Active Day Cream for all skin tones. A little goes a long way with this rich and creamy product. Apply a small amount all over face an neck to clean skin. Then apply makeup as usual. This cream has a beautiful lightly floral scented fragrance. The luxurious texture glides on skin and the results are immediate. The face appearance hydrated, wrinkles are filled in and appear smooth, and the best part, it absorbs quickly into the skin.
The Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream includes three main ingredients that are responsible for the amazing results. Organic Teasel, Myrothamnus, and Organic California Poppy help revitalize, minimize fine lines, and tone the skin.
Free shipping on the Clarins website until this Friday. Make sure to add this anti-aging cream to your skincare routine! Also available in an SPF version for extra protection.
Some months ago, I first heard of this minimally invasive procedure that reduces the appearance of cellulite using heat. Fortuitously, I was invited to cover a Dinner and Demo event at The Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia. The guest speaker was renowned Dermatologist, Dr. David Goldberg the leading expert with skin lasers, cosmetic dermatology, and facial rejuvenation.
My conversation with Dr. Goldberg was refreshing. He was honest and genuine, without agenda. Even though he performs procedures including fillers and botox, he also believes in taking care of your body from the inside out. Taking care of your skin begins at an early age. Starting in your 20’s there are important factors to consider. Wearing sunscreen is a absolute must! Not only does sunscreen protect skin from the harmful damage that can cause wrinkles, it more importantly protects skin from skin cancer.
Keep in mind that not all anti-aging creams are created equally, according to Dr. Goldberg. Fragrance, texture, and price point does not necessarily equate to effectiveness. Retinols are a key ingredient that you should look for in your anti-aging serums or creams. Growth factors repair skin damage and regulate cellular processes. Antioxidants work in tandem with growth factors. They protect the skin from free radical damage that eventually lead to wrinkles. Dr. Goldberg recommends Heliocare, which is an oral daily antioxidant, much more effective than consuming your weight in blueberries for instance. These tips will help slow down the aging process, which we all want to do.
Beginning in your 40’s you start to see signs of aging, wrinkles, minor sagging, brown spots are common and a yellow tint to skin, which signifies a breakdown in collagen. EndyMed is a procedure that uses 3Deep RF technology to target these areas and stimulate a production of collagen. Usually six sessions are the minimum. Skin is slightly red, but immediately the skin is tightened, the color is improved and can take up to 10 years off of your appearance! The power and depth are controlled, which eliminate any potential side effects. The energy produced by this radio frequency is gentle, safe, and effective. The 3Deep RF technology is essentially controlled and targeted energy flow with a minimal of the energy flow in the skin’s surface. The results are incredible and can last up to two years! This procedure can be used to treat acne scars, body contouring, skin rejuvenation, and skin tightening.
The EndyMed Intensif is a more advanced approach and can be completed in half of the time, used on face or body. This is recommended for those with deeper lines, darker acne scars, and body cellulite just to name a few. The RF Microneedle handpiece treatment provides an effective dermal remodeling deeper within the skin to revive and rejuvenate the natural production of new collagen and elastin. This stimulates the body to repair and begin the healing process, which ultimately refreshes the skin. The results: a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, traumatic scars, and cellulite.
I was pretty convinced after Dr. Goldberg’s presentation, but then after the demonstration, I was ready to sign up for treatments. However, I will take Dr. Goldberg’s suggestions and wait until I am a little older, making sure to take care of my skin until that time. If you are not interested in plastic surgery, more interested in a results driven, minimally invasive procedure this is the one to try.
All of my loyal readers know how much I love a good maxi dress. I could wear them all year round, but live in them during the spring and summer. Right before I left for Miami, I took one last shopping trip just to make sure I was not missing anything. Turns out, I was definitely missing this stunning blue dress that I purchased on sale at Fashion Statement boutique in Bryn Mawr @shop.fashion_statement Make sure to stop by this fabulous boutique for unique and stylish pieces.
This dress has pockets!!! I feel like I don’t need to say anything else, but I will elaborate. The color is so brilliant that I wore red metal lipstick by Lipstick Queen to compliment the vibrancy. As for accessories, the temperature was scorching so I decided to keep it light. I wore my favorite oversized straw hat that I purchased last summer at H&M. The dress has spectacular movement, it’s unbelievably comfortable, and looks like it should be worn in Greece.
I was more than a little nervous to travel to Miami with all of my dietary restrictions. I prepared myself to buy food and store snacks and fruit in the hotel room if it was a challenge to dine out. I had no idea that Miami was so inclusive and understanding when it comes to food particulars. Miami is already known for innovative culinary experiences, a melting pot in cultural feasts, but now I recognize this unique city as being vegan and gluten free friendly.
In case you are traveling to Miami or thinking about taking a trip, here are some delicious restaurants serving more than just french fries and salads as a vegan options.
Let’s begin with The Marseille Hotel directly across the street from The Catalina on Collins Ave. Mostly, I enjoyed breakfast and the pool menu for a snack. The tables are outdoors like so many restaurants in South Beach, great for people watching. For breakfast I ate a fresh fruit bowl and roasted potatoes with cilantro and spices. The potatoes were crisp and delicious without any excess oil. The service was fast and all servers were friendly. Guacamole was my go-to snack with mango and salsa served with tortilla chips.
On beach days, the sun can really zap your energy and make you hungry. On these days I ordered delivery from Carrot Express which offers a full range of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I tried the Teeka Salad with cilantro dressing, which was so fresh and tasty that I had to order twice! The salad was made with kale, avocado, carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber, tomatoes, sunflower sprouts, and quinoa.
Full Bloom was quite the sensory experience. Located on the mezzanine level overlooking the water; perfect for a sunset dinner. The decor was serene and beautiful with fountains, rose petals, and candles. Full Bloom is completely vegan and zagat restaurant with soy, nut, and gluten free options. Aunt Sharon and I had quite the challenge picking from the extensive and delectable menu. Our server was all too happy to make recommendations and the choices were mouthwatering. We started with the South West roasted asparagus and corn and the smashed roasted cauliflower parsnip. Both absolutely scrumptious. For our main meals, my Aunt ordered the gnocchi and I had the fajita platter with roasted veggies, which I gobbled in under 10 minutes.
The Cleo is a restaurant that specializes in sharable meals with mediterranean and middle eastern cuisine and was named one of the top 50 hottest restaurants in the U.S. by OpenTable. Cleo is located within The Redbury and is a pretty special place. The restaurant manager, Rima was sweet and inviting. She made sure that our server was aware of my allergies and diet. Anything that was not specifically nut free for instance was modified so I did not have to be deprived of any meal option. We ate at this restaurant the most during our vacation and were treated like VIP’s. Our favorite starters were brought to the table as soon as we sat down. The atmosphere was lively and warm. The servers were knowledgeable and fun, the food was amazing! So many complex flavors and fusion bites. The curry hummus with veggies was a staple and my Aunt ordered the lebenah with feta. We shared the brussels sprout hearts that were made delicately and uniquely by separating each one of the leaves. We also tried the artichokes with nicoise olives, which was lemon and garlic infused. Each time I could not resist ordering the quinoa salad with roasted veggies and frisee, without the almonds. My Aunt ventured to try something new including the garlic shrimp and the wagyu kebab. You can not go wrong with anything on the menu!
As promised, my post featuring the very chic and contemporary brand, Mamme-Alla-Moda. This fashion line offers full skirts with fun prints, retro sunglasses, and sky high heels along with the original graphic t-shirts!
I decided to wear my Style is Ageless grey cap sleeve t-shirt with a pair of Lysse leggings, a blue faux suede jacket with silver detail from Who What Wear , Alex and Ani bangles and slip-on mules. This particular look is casual and effortless, but the shirt could absolutely be worn with faux leather pants or a printed full skirt and worn with heels.
Well it would not be a vacation if there wasn’t a little R&R. While staying in Miami, my Aunt Sharon and I adopted the saying “treat yoself” and that motto led us to Belle Island. What’s in Belle Island? you say, why The Lido Spa- The Standard Hotel is in Belle Island.
We arrived sharply at 9am and purchased the spa day pass, not realizing that the pass allowed us to use the facilities until 10pm! As we walked into the hotel an immediate sense of calm washed over me. The atmosphere was relaxing and soothing. The indoor spa facilities were located on the 2nd and 3rd floor including a cedar sauna, a Turkish bath complete with hammam marble, a steam room, cold showers, and of course a gift shop that I simply could not walk by without buying a few goodies!
Once we sweated out all of our toxins, we headed downstairs. We embarked on a long journey through thick, lush grass, hanging swings and hammocks, and palm trees.
Through the clearing was a an oasis. An outdoor water therapy space including a salt water infinity pool overlooking the bay, a hot waterfall tub, and an arctic bath. Sitting on the ledge while hot water trickles down your back, massaging as it falls was an amazing experience. Our bodies bobbed along the pool, while the salt kept us buoyant and free from any stress on the body.
We ordered delicious and light food while stretching on lounge chairs overlooking the bay.
The smell of the ocean, the warm breeze, and the beautiful sunny day was something I could get used to on a regular basis! If you are in the Miami area, The Lido Spa is definitely worth visiting!
Over the weekend, I attended the Black Tie Awards Gala by Dining with Divas to kick off Mother’s Day weekend at the home of Carolyn Smith, the beautiful mother of Actor, Will Smith. His sister Ellen, is a warm hearted, loving, philanthropic woman who has dedicated her life to giving back especially to mothers. Every year Carolyn’s mansion is the location for Ellen’s Dining with Divas events. When I spoke to Ellen on Saturday I was so moved and touched by her dedication, my eyes began to swell with tears. She explained to me that once she gave birth to her child she found herself contemplating the “what ifs” of life. One of which was, “what if I was in a shelter?” All mothers should be celebrated even if they do not have the means. This year the Black Tie Awards benefited women and their families in transition from homeless shelters and domestic violence and abuse shelters.
Ellen Smith founded Dining with Divas with the purpose of giving back through the community through events that pamper, educate, entertain, and empower. Since 2004, Ellen has made it her mission to use her resources to create a “one stop shop” for moms and children to share a wonderful day together including exciting musical performances, guest appearances, delicious food, and family fun. The “Mother’s Day Signature” event has welcomed and entertained hundreds of attendees over the years and is a joyous occasion that is looked forward to all year round.
The honorees of the night and award recipients included, Charisse R. Lillie, Vice President of Community Investment at Comcast Corporation, Grammy nominated singer Jazmine Sullivan, Communications Professional Dyana Williams and one part of the R & B Soul group Kindred, Aja Grayon.
Ellen has donated her time to Laurel House and for the past twelve years she has opened The Mansion to mothers who may not ordinarily be able to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Mother’s Day Fashion Show and Brunch event (held the following day) provides poolside massages and vendors to make sure that all moms are celebrated and pampered no matter their situation.
I met some truly special people at this event including Nikki Bagby, Outreach Supervisor Medicaid/CHIP/Healthy at United Healthcare. Nikki has been attending Ellen’s events for years. Instantly, I knew she was a kind soul, one that I felt happy just meeting. Also, as this is a lifestyle website, I would be remiss if I did not mention Nikki’s hair and makeup, which was absolutely stunning!
I wore a cap sleeve Calvin Klein black gown with Nina heels. My makeup was simple and bronzed as I applied Laguna Beach bronzer (coming soon) and Liquid Shimmer by Laini Cosmetics. My lipstick was bold and bright. Wearing Funny Face by NARS.
Please visit the Dining with Divas website to see how you can contribute to the inspirational efforts of this organization.
I recently spoke with Mamme Alla Moda Founder, Emanuela Tamburini on her fabulous, fun, and stylish t-shirt brand. I quickly realized that what began as a t-shirt company expanded into much more; a complete fashion brand offering a full range of products and accessories.
Tell me about your brand ‘Mamme Alla Moda’ and how it all began?
The brand MAMME-ALLA-MODA holds a lot of my own personal story and life and this is the reason I love it so much! I’m an Italian woman, fashion minded with style in my blood. I have been in tuned with fashion since childhood and dreamt I would one day become an iconic fashion stylist.
After high school, unfortunately, I went for a different career path in life; I went to University, got a degree in Architecture and kept my dream alive, but locked in a drawer.
All of a sudden, at the age of 35, I fulfilled the dream of a family complete with an amazing husband and 3 kids. I realized it was about time to take that dream out of the drawer again and make it a reality.
I completed lessons and seminars focused on personal shopping and image consultancy that allowed me to step into the business.
One day, I designed a logo for a t-shirt, just for the fun of it. From a t-shirt, I continued with a ‘capsule collection’.
And after the capsule collection, I started to advertise and sell my ideas, and… here we go… clients came to my door!
This is what I have been doing for the past 3 years; designing, creating, and drawing on T-shirts, because everybody loves t-shirts and every concept can be printed on a t-shirt.
Where do you find the inspiration for the mottos on your shirts?
To be honest the whole world is an inspiration. Any writing, picture or sentence, everything I experience in my everyday life is inspirational. My kids, my husband as well as a girls night out or a weekend in the countryside. And why not? A glass of wine or a dish of pasta…
Which celebrity would you love to see wearing your shirts?
Only one answer… Sarah J Parker. I love the person, the actress, her style. EVERYTHING.
I’d be honored to see one of our t-shirts on her, maybe walking in the street or attending an informal event. A few weeks back, I received a LIKE on one of our instagram post that showed a special outfit combined with SJP creation shoes; just made my day.
Is the clothing just for stylish moms?
At the very beginning, we were selling graphics and mottos for mums and fashion mums especially. Nowadays, we also publish general designs, targeting all women; always with a bit of sparkle, glamour, and attitude.
Do you see yourself expanding ‘Mamme Alla Moda’ to an entire clothing line?
Mamme alla Moda is ALSO a precise stylish concept, which we propose and deliver on a daily basis on our instagram posts INSTAGRAM: @mammeallamoda.
Many women are getting in touch with us asking to sell different accessories and clothing.
At first, we had to refuse. After a few months of ‘resistance’, we decided to expand our collections to new clothing, such as skirts and shoes (coming soon!) My vision is to create an entire collection, which is slowly becoming a reality.
Thank you to Emanuela for chatting with me and for Wendy Buiter for creating such a beautiful illustration. Next, I will be styling my very own Mamme Alla Moda t-shirt…stay tuned!
Visiting the Zoological Wildlife Foundation in Miami was really a dream come true, as corny as that may sound. Before I delve into all of the fabulous details of my day, I would be remiss not to tell you about my first impression. My Aunt Sharon and I arrived at ZWF a little early. Access to the premises is private and all the animals are behind a huge gate leading to an ever expanding property that is reminiscent of Jurassic Park. A security employee drove over to the gate riding an open jeep that we hopped on and headed to the offices for registration. I was so excited I could barely wait until my tour began, fidgeting in my chair, taking pictures of the surrounding area, and preparing myself not to squeal with delight from the sight of the animals.
Finally, our tour guide, Janesse walked over, introduced herself to the group and we were off; embarking on an adventure that I have been waiting for months. Of course, I first had to gush to Janesse, daughter of Tania who I follow on instagram @misstyflower. Tania is the mother of Toby, Russel, and Angelika, the capuchin monkeys that I love.
Throughout the tour we were able to feed monkeys and camels, visit the bengals, white lions, cougars, jaguars, porcupines, and toucans.
The sun was beating down on the group and just as I thought I would pass out from heat, Janesse led us over to a large covered hut. The shade and breeze was much needed, but before we could get too comfortable we noticed our surroundings. Two majestic owls, a baby alligator, armadillo, turtle, and bearded dragon were in the hut. We were able to walk around and snuggle with each of these animals.
The great horned owl was my favorite. It took every ounce of self control not to pick him up in my arms. In that moment, I knew exactly why Hogwarts allows owls as pets, they surely are magical creatures. His beautiful eyes closed as I rubbed the bridge of his nose.
Sharon loved holding the alligator. His skin was cool and dry. His eyes were inquisitive as he tolerated each of us holding him- securely at the tail and neck.
I could not snap my camera fast enough and somehow lost track of Janesse. She was headed to bring back a “surprise.” This included Oliver the capuchin and Yellow an albino python. Again, you can imagine the restraint on my end. I wanted to break out in SJP’s song from Hocus Pocus and lure all the animals back to Philadelphia with me.
This amazing day was capped off by a special add on. I was able to hold a baby sloth named Lucas. This little bundle was the sweetest cuddle bug. I could have held him for hours. He slowly turned his head upwards as if to say, “how did I get here and who is this holding me?”
If you are visiting the Miami area the Zoological Wildlife Foundation is a must see. For animal lovers, it is a magical place with truly dedicated staff, a testament to Founders, Mario and Maria Tabraue.
This is one of my favorite looks from last night’s Met Gala! Rachel is wearing an exquisite gold, Valentino gown with strikingly bold makeup. Rachel played the game, thank you! The theme of the night was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. The attendees should look as though they not only follow the theme, but wear a more costume like attire. No ball gowns or typical red carpet looks here.
